Zach Cregger’s horror-comedy take on Resident Evil arrives on digital video-on-demand platforms today, fresh off crossing a major global box office milestone.
Sony Pictures confirmed that the live-action reboot has cleared 400 million dollars worldwide after a seven-week theatrical run. The milestone makes it the highest-grossing installment in the long-running video game adaptation franchise, surpassing past entries starring Milla Jovovich and the 2021 reboot Welcome to Raccoon City.
The film pulled in 157.4 million dollars domestically alongside 242.6 million dollars from international markets, fueled by strong performances in territories like China and the United Kingdom. Produced on a budget upwards of 75 million dollars, the commercial success underscores a banner year for theatrical horror.
Industry analysts noted that the picture’s unique blend of campy comedy and survival dread helped sustain momentum through an increasingly crowded autumn release calendar. Viewers can rent or purchase the film starting today across major digital storefronts including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home.
A subscription streaming date for the title has not yet been announced, though industry agreements position Netflix as the eventual home entertainment streaming destination following its initial PVOD window.
