The Imo State Independent Electoral Commission has rescheduled local government council elections for Saturday, November 14, 2026.
The announcement sets a definitive date for voters across 27 local government areas following consecutive postponements. ISIEC Chairman Charles Ejiogu confirmed the decision during consultations with political party leadership and electoral stakeholders in Owerri.
The elections, originally fixed for September 26 before moving to November 7, faced delays due to court challenges and requests from political parties for adjusted nomination schedules.
“ISIEC will present a seamless level playing ground for all your chairmanship and councillorship candidates,” Ejiogu told representatives of the Inter-Party Advisory Council.
The upcoming vote covers 305 registration wards and 4,758 polling units. Commission officials confirmed that security agencies are coordinating under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security to safeguard materials and voters on election day.
