The club confirmed the dismissal in an official statement after a home loss to West Brom compounded a previous defeat against Southampton at the London Stadium. The results left the Hammers sitting eighth in the table after 13 matches.
Nuno oversaw the club’s relegation from the Premier League last season and struggled to mount an immediate promotion challenge.
“Following a thorough review of the start to the EFL Championship season, the board of directors believe that a change is necessary at this time,” the club said in a statement.
Assistant manager Rui Pedro Silva and goalkeeper coach Rui Barbosa also left the club with immediate effect.
Former club captain Mark Noble stepped in alongside Steve Potts and Gerard Prenderville to take temporary charge for Wednesday night’s fixture against Cardiff City. The board confirmed that a search for a permanent successor is underway.
