Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, ruled out seeking political office Monday after helping secure his uncle Ademola Adeleke’s re-election as Osun State governor.

Responding to fans urging him to run for office following his active campaign role, the singer described Nigerian politics as “evil” and declared he wants no part in it.

“I brought no one! No one defended me! I backed my family on my own!! You guys are ruthless and disgusting! Eeewwww!” Davido wrote on X. “I have done my job! Nigerian politics is evil, and I don’t want to be a part of it till God help us.”

The comments follow an intense election cycle where the “Unavailable” hitmaker led the youth campaign mobilization team for Governor Adeleke, who ran under the Accord Party flag. During Saturday’s voting, Davido made headlines by demanding election officials use the front camera on Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices when primary cameras malfunctioned, while warning against attempts to manipulate results.

Despite his family’s deep roots in Nigerian state craft, the musician maintained that his involvement was strictly personal support for relatives rather than a launching pad for a political career.

Davido previously told content creator Carter Efe during a livestream that while his platform gives him electoral appeal, he would only consider running for office if Nigeria guarantees transparent elections. He noted he could defeat any opponent in a fair contest, but cited systemic flaws as his main deterrent.

The singer’s statement follows a public feud with House of Representatives member James Faleke over the Osun race. Davido accused the All Progressives Congress lawmaker and two colleagues of trying to tamper with election results.

Faleke, who represents Ikeja Federal Constituency, rejected the claims and argued his presence in Osun mirrored Davido’s support for his uncle. The singer dismissed the explanation, telling the lawmaker: “Politics is not a career. Get a Job!”

With the Osun gubernatorial contest concluded, Davido indicated his political activism is complete for the foreseeable future, choosing to focus entirely on his global music career.
